Bad News from the Past?

If something sad happened to your great-great-grandfather 100 years ago from, say, tomorrow, would you want to know about it? I've just gotten word that the ancestor of a fellow I know got some really sad news 100 years ago and I'm wondering whether or not I should tell him. Would you want to know?
